Samsung Focus SGH-I917

Year: 2010
Prototype level: Non-Final
Codename: Cetus

Overview

The Samsung SGH-i917, known commercially as the Focus, was one of Samsung’s first-generation Windows Phone 7 smartphones. Released in 2010, it combined a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 5-megapixel camera and 8 GB of storage. The i917 had originally been demonstrated to the Windows Phone developer community well before its commercial launch, making it an interesting link between Samsung’s development hardware and the finished Focus.

The specimen in this collection is a non-final version with several visible differences from the retail phone. The Samsung branding is missing from the front cover, the patterned finish normally found on the battery cover is different, and the cover is marked “Not For Sale.” The camera and LED flash arrangement on the rear is also different from the production design; the commercial Focus placed the LED flash directly below the camera.
