About the collector

I have been collecting mobile phones since the early 2000s. By the middle of the 2010s, the collection had grown to well over 400 phones, all displayed in cabinets throughout the living room. Over time, however, life changed and so did my interests. The collection gradually became smaller, while becoming more focused on the phones I found most interesting.

Around 2025, I decided to narrow the collection down to its current focus: devices that were never commercially released, or that differ in a meaningful way from the phones that eventually reached the market. What remained was a much smaller collection, but one that felt more personal and much more representative of what I wanted to collect.

Finding the phones themselves is also part of the challenge. I have a wishlist of devices I am actively looking for, and I am almost always keeping an eye out for something from that list. But some of the most interesting discoveries have been completely unexpected. Phones I had never heard of before can suddenly appear on collector forums, auction sites or social media groups, sometimes leading to a new addition to the collection.

Over the years, collecting has also given me the opportunity to connect with people who have a unique connection to this part of mobile-phone history, including developers, former employees of major manufacturers and fellow collectors. These conversations have often provided information and stories that would otherwise be difficult, if not impossible, to find.

Creating a website for the collection had been on my mind for many years, but I never seemed to find the time to actually do it. Life can be unexpected, though, and eventually I finally got around to it. Building the site has been a big challenge for me, especially as I had no previous experience with website design or the terminology that comes with it. AI has been a valuable advisor and assistant throughout the process, helping me understand how things work, explaining unfamiliar terminology and showing me how to build and organise the pages.
