Motorola A835

Year: 2003
Prototype level: Non-Final
Codename: Talon Integrated

Overview

The Motorola A835 was one of Motorola’s early 3G/UMTS smartphones, announced in 2003 and released later that year through operators including 3. The phone combined UMTS and GSM connectivity with a colour display, camera, Bluetooth, MP3 playback, Java and video calling, making it one of Motorola’s more advanced handsets of the period.

The specimen in this collection is a particularly interesting engineering sample with several obvious differences from the production A835. Most noticeably, it has an unreleased keypad shape and a transparent prototype front, leaving the internal structure visible beneath the front surface. The remaining covers are beige rather than the production finish, while the handset is covered with prototype and engineering-sample markings and printings.
